Between 20-21 May 2023, Iași City Hall, the Romanian Academy – Iași Branch, Iași County Agriculture Directorate, the University of Life Sciences, and the Association of Local Producers “Made in Iași” organized the Iași in traditional, ecological, mountain and artisan cuisine event.
The fair brought together over 35 producers from the North East Development Region, and the people of Iași had the opportunity to purchase meat products, bakery, canned vegetables, fish, honey and bee products, lavender, cold-pressed oil, juices, and sea buckthorn oil.
By organizing this fair, the organizers aimed to contribute to the promotion and encouragement of the consumption of food products, prepared according to traditional recipes, popular in the North-Eastern area of the country.
At the same time, the aim is to foster the entrepreneurial spirit, as well as the creation of new sales channels, for the capitalization of agri-food productions obtained within medium and small farms in the region.
Furthermore, through this event, the organizers aimed to promote a healthy diet, as well as develop a culture/lifestyle for traditional culinary products.
During the fair, there were held information actions regarding the features of ecological products, traditionally or mountain area certified, as well as workshops dedicated to children.
In addition, on 20 May, on the occasion of World Bee Day, Relu Cojocar from Moldova Apiary presented the children with the life of bees in the hive, as well as the differences between conventional honey and certified organic honey.
On 21 May, Cecilia Țugulia from Magazia Morăriței (Miller’s shop) organized a cooking workshop with children using local ingredients. The children had the opportunity to learn about the manufacturing process of bakery products, from the ear of wheat to the final product.
These activities are part of the actions to promote healthy eating and increase the trust degree of urban consumers in local food products and are mainly dedicated to children – as they are vectors of training and information within their families.
Activities organized within the Cities2030 project, a project financed by the European Commission through the Horizon2020 program (www.cities2030.eu).
Iași City Hall and the Romanian Academy – Iași Branch are the Romanian partners in this project, along with 39 other partners from European countries.
